“Avengers: Infinity War (2018)” has been formally on show in China since May 11th, and by researching its Chinese name “复仇者联盟3” or “复联3” in short and relevant keywords on Baidu Index, we found four interesting facts as follows.
High popularity before release
Popularity of “Avengers: Infinity War” began to increase significantly several days before its release in China, and finally peaked on the day of launch. This explains why the movie’s box office returns exceeded 1 billion RMB yuan (about 157 million US dollars) in three days.
“Download” are among hot search queries
According to data from Baidu Index, Chinese people are most interested in three categories of information about “Infinity War”: release date, movie plot and download information.
It’s common that many Chinese interested in popular movies wouldn’t go to cinemas for it, but would rather wait until download links are available on the internet. But it’s basically impossible that such resources are available during the show time of a movie, except that it has been released abroad months before.
East China is most interested in the movie
“Avengers: Infinity War” enjoys the highest search popularity in East China provinces, including Jiangsu and Zhejiang. Besides, Guangdong province in the south also witnessed one of the highest search numbers on Baidu. And the hottest-searching cities in China are Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou (capital of Zhejiang province).
Besides, more than 50% searchers of the film are between 30 and 39 years old, and the other 50% are approximately split by people 20 – 29 and 40 – 49. And the number of male searchers is obviously bigger than that of females.
Thanos is more popular than any super heroes
Some Chinese viewers even said the ending of Thanos is heartbreaking, and according to search data of Thanos and other characters, Thanos has got more attention than any other figures in “Infinity War” in China.
