Baidu to Release Hurricane 2.0 against Duplicate Content

Baidu announced yesterday that it’s going to release an update to its Hurricane algorithm, which is designed to tackle websites filled with maliciously acquired content.

This algorithm update which is called Hurricane 2.0 will be released late September and will aim at four kinds of content acquiring sites:

  1. Websites that copy content from other sites or WeChat subscription accounts, and don’t make any amendments for added value to users.
  2. Websites with posts consisted of paragraphs from multiple articles, which has poor logic or reading experience and cannot meet any demands from users.
  3. Websites with a large amount of collected content and are unable to create any original content.
  4. Websites with too much copied content which is irrelevant to the sites’ theme but aim to get traffic in a malicious way. For example, sci-tech websites releasing much news on entertainment gossips and social news.

As there are numerous black-hat-SEO websites in China, Baidu usually reminds the webmasters of fixing their sites before releasing algorithm updates.

However, if Baidu’s Hurricane 2.0 does work this time, most targeted sites wouldn’t be able to escape death as they never have the ability to create original and useful content.
